What marks our focus? On what do we place our thoughts? Where is our thinking driving us? Though in the pursuit of knowledge there are those who while continuing to learn more are still unable to come to a knowledge of the truth (i.e. 2 Timothy 3:7), are we at least holding true to the knowledge we have already attained? (Philippians 3:16) Or do we find ourselves discontent because of answers which may be beyond us? While some may be trying to get a handle on all the knowledge they can, are we properly handling what we do know?
David wrote. . .
“(1) O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. (2) But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.” (Psalm 131:1-2 ESV)
Though David’s psalms reflect a deep heart of affection and understanding toward God, his life was not marked by arrogance or pride in either what he had come to know or in his accomplishments. Yet today, we see many who have puffed themselves up due to knowledge (i.e. 1 Corinthians 8:1) and take pride in their educational degrees. Though there is knowledge which can definitely make us better persons, it doesn’t mean we are better than others so as to look down on them.
While pursuing knowledge and seeking to understand more — especially through our study of the Scriptures — we should still calm ourselves with the understanding some things are beyond our learning; there are some things God has not revealed. (i.e. Deuteronomy 29:29) May we therefore learn to leave those things to God and be encouraged and at peace with what He has revealed as we seek to live our life in accordance with His Sovereign Will!
Have a great day RESTING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF AND FAITH IN GOD!
