There are some who claim to accept all beliefs equally. However, many of those individuals seem quick to dismiss the authority of God’s Word. Even in the pooling of all the wisdom “of the world” shouldn’t it readily be seen that it can’t all fit together, but that there is great conflict between varying world views? Or is “truth” and “wisdom” merely some smorgasbord from which one can pick whatever is in accordance with personal taste and still be properly nourished?
As Paul wrote to the church at Colossae, he cautioned. . .
“(8) See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” (Colossians 2:8 ESV)
It is in Christ we find the substance of wisdom. He came as the Word in the flesh (John 1:14) to reveal the Will of the Father as He extended words of life. (John 6:63) And from the truth of God we gain true nourishment for our souls.
James contrasted worldly wisdom with that which is from above. (James 3:13-17) What it is we accept as wisdom will be revealed in the kind of life we live. It will be revealed not in the arrogance of worldly intellectualism, but rather by “good conduct” showing “works in the meekness of wisdom.” (James 3:13 ESV)
Lord willing, over the next several days, let us meditate together on the eight characteristics James associated with the wisdom from above. It is wisdom of substance. It is wisdom that will impact the lives of those with whom we come into contact. And it is wisdom which will keep our life tethered to Heaven, its very source. May this wisdom remain the foundation for the actions of our life to the glory of God!
Have a great day DRAWING WISDOM FROM ABOVE!
