James exhorted. . .
“(17) But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17 ESV)
I think it is logical that peace follows the characteristic of purity. Pure motives and thoughts lead to pure actions to the end that peace may be brought to lives and especially between us and God. Now, it is possible to have an impure or unholy peace; a worldly peace gained by merely refusing to acknowledge a difference between right and wrong or pure and impure living and so not buck the trends of the world. Worldly wisdom expounds such philosophies as: “I’m okay and you’re okay.”, “To each his own.”, and “Whatever floats your boat.”.
Many times, human wisdom leads to a competitive spirit as one tries to get ahead and make a name for themselves. This often brings about conflict and rivalry with others rather than peace. Godly wisdom seeks not merely one’s own aims, but considers what benefits others. Godly wisdom also knows when to speak and when to keep the mouth shut, which is sometimes all that is necessary for peace to occur.
Peace is what God has desired to bring to our life because He is the God of peace. (Philippians 4:9) In accepting His wisdom we are enabled to experience peace even in the midst of a world of conflict. (Philippians 4:6-7) As God’s children we have been called upon to be peacemakers. (Matthew 5:9) Peace is not to be gained at any price. However, God’s wisdom leads to living that seeks for peace and mutual edification or upbuilding. (Romans 14:19)
James went on to point out. . .
“(18) And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” (James 3:18 ESV)
Praise God for the peace He brings to our life. As children of God, may we accept our calling as peacemakers as well!
Have a great day REAPING A HARVEST OF RIGHTEOUSNESS!
