Though it has often been stated, “God helps those who help themselves”, that is actually not found anywhere in Scripture. The truth is, I need to surrender to God while duly acknowledging how much He has already done on my behalf.
As Paul stated in his letter to Christians at Rome. . .
“(8) but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 ESV)
In acknowledging my greatest need for which I could do nothing to remedy it, I must humbly turn to God for the help I need. Praise God for His gracious love to not have waited for me to get my act together, for then the provision would never have been made. In view of the need I could not fulfill myself, He graciously provided!
I don’t have the help of God because I have already become such a powerful person, because Paul also pointed out. . .
“(6) For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:6 ESV)
Also, I do not have the help of God because I had already become His good friend, since Paul also noted. . .
“(10) For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:10 ESV)
The reality is that sin separated me from God and I needed a means of reconciliation (being brought back to Him), which God provided through the Son. Therefore, I must humbly acknowledge it is not because I have already done so much, but because of His steadfast love (i.e. Psalm 109:26) I can seek and receive His needed help. In understanding the great chasm between my ability and His, I am then compelled into God glorifying action by my deep gratefulness for what He has provided and will continue to provide. It is through wholehearted dependence on God that my whole heart will continue to be humbly responsive to His guidance. Yes, God help me, because I cannot make it without You!
Have a great day HUMBLY ACKNOWLEDGING THE NEEDED HELP GOD OFFERS!
