I love bread. It doesn’t even have to have anything on it for me to enjoy it. And I love to walk into the smell of fresh bread or rolls coming out of the oven. It still amazes me that one can start out with a little bit of dough, mix in some yeast that secretly works its way through the whole batch until it is all leavened (Matthew 13:33), causing it to rise into a bigger lump and ultimately become a large loaf of bread. That leaven (or yeast), though hidden within, powerfully works through it all, making its presence evident by the rising of the dough. God’s Word is intended to work in a similar manner in our life.
In the Psalms we read. . .
“(11) I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11 ESV)
Both the NKJV and the NLT refer to the Word being “hidden” in the heart. God’s Word hidden within is to secretly and powerfully begin to work through our whole life, giving rise to the godly character His Word is intended to instill within us. As our character rises above the standards of the world, it becomes evident that the Word is doing its work within.
Let us continue storing up God’s Word within so that we might not sin against Him, but rather rise to the challenge of displaying an example of God’s Wisdom in action. As we strive to become more and more like Christ, we can draw attention to the true “bread of life” (John 6:48); the One Who brings real nourishment to our souls. May we continually bear in mind that more important than “kneading the dough” is our “needing to do” as God’s Word has directed.
Have a great day ALLOWING GOD’S WORD TO WORK AS HE WILLS!
