One of the psalmists wrote. . .
“(5) Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. (6) The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. (7) Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.” (Psalm 116:5-7 ESV)
In the experience of life’s circumstances and situations which touch our heart and weigh upon our mind, lifting our eyes to God ought to bring to remembrance His character of graciousness, righteousness, and mercy. Reminding ourselves of these abiding characteristics of our loving God Who is fully aware of whatever is presently being borne up under should draw us to keep our faith in Him. Knowing both His power to preserve and to save — and trusting in His faithfulness to do so in His time and in His way — can then bring rest to our soul even though there may be unrest around us.
Is this not similar to the encouraging invitation of our Lord? He stated. . .
“(28) Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 ESV)
In contrast to many of the teachers of that day who placed burdens on the people by their manner of teaching (i.e. Matthew 23:4), Jesus offers relief and rest by the grace that is ours in Him. And yoked alongside Him we are not bearing life’s burdens or engaged in life’s labors alone. Learning from Him we can find rest for our soul in accepting the forgiveness and the eternal hope He provides. Therefore, in the bounty of Divine grace and love, may our soul find rest!
Have a great day EXPERIENCING THE REST FOUND IN RESTING OUR LIFE WITH GOD!
