Being a “hot-head” can get us into trouble. Though deeply impacted by what others might do, flying off the handle is not a good way to respond. There remains the need to maintain control of our anger. (i.e. Ephesians 4:26) However, to have a “hot heart” can be an indication of being deeply touched by the sinfulness and waywardness of humanity rather than simply becoming accustomed to and desensitized by it. Are we duly touched?
One of the psalmists stated. . .
“(53) Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law.” (Psalm 119:53 ESV)
This was very sad because it was in view of Jewish brethren who were ignoring God’s law instead of remaining faithful to Him. Further on the psalmist would also state. . .
“(136) My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.” (Psalm 119:136 ESV)
This was hotness of heart; indignation and sorrow for those who should have held to God’s law, but instead chose to live in unrighteousness. Do we love God’s Will in such a manner that we are so touched? Though the world will do what the world will do, to see those who claim to be Christians seeming to not be living in faithfulness to the word of truth, what can we do? We can begin with prayer and then — remembering we are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) — we can move to do what Paul noted to the church at Thessalonica where we read. . .
“(14) And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV)
God was touched enough by our human condition to send His only Son (John 3:16) that through Him we could be cleansed and have the hope of eternal life. May our heart be touched enough to direct others toward that blessing as well!
Have a great day TOUCHED BY THE SOUL’S GREAT NEED FOR REDEMPTION!
