Waiting is not always easy. Sometimes our impatience can even be roused within a matter of seconds such as when a light turns red right as we get to the intersection and so we wait, or when waiting for a website to open up, etc. When waiting for people we may sometimes struggle with feeling we are left hanging and wondering and begin to resent time being wasted. However, sometimes the manner in which we endure waiting depends on for what or whom we are waiting. Are there some things we have found worth waiting for? Are there people we dearly love whom we are more willing to exercise patience with as we wait with eager and longing anticipation regardless of time?
In one of David’s psalms, he stated. . .
“(5) Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.” (Psalm 25:5 ESV)
God’s timing and our timing are not the same and we ought to duly acknowledge that. (i.e. 2 Peter 3:8) We should also trust, however, that His timing is right! Sometimes we do not receive what we have asked of God as quickly as we might desire, but if the request is truly according to His Will (i.e. 1 John 5:14-15) are we willing to wait on the wisdom of His timing?
In remaining open to the direction of God — the Master of His life — David was willing to wait rather than step out too presumptuously. Remember when Joshua and the people made a decision without consulting God with regard to the sparing of the Gibeonites. (Joshua 9:14-15) And remember how Saul sinned by taking things into his own hand rather than continuing to wait for Samuel to come to make the offering. (1 Samuel 13:8-10) If only he had waited a little bit longer.
Waiting is not necessarily remaining idle. We can go about tasks of the day while continuing to keep the eyes and heart open to the opportunities God provides for doing His Will. David’s desire was to receive the truth from God and to be led in it; to know it and properly apply it for living. In light of this prayer, David was willing through the day to be open each moment to what God would lead Him through. May we have the patient faith to do the same!
Have a great day WILLING TO WAIT FOR GOD’S WILL TO WORK!
Carl
