There’s a wonderful hymn we sing by J. S. Torbett titled, “The Glory-Land Way”. The first phrase of this hymn is:
“I’m in the way, the bright and shining way, . . . .”
And the last part of the chorus is:
“Heaven is nearer and the way growth clearer, For I’m in the glory-land way.”
It is such an encouraging thought to know — as children of God — we are in and on the “glory-land way.” However, when we consider our approach to daily living, it is quite possible there are times we should sing the phrase “I’m in the way” a bit differently. Perhaps we ought to sing those words as a confession, followed by the request for God to help us get ourselves out of the way. This will enable us to follow His Will more closely rather than hindering His work by our own small thinking.
How many times have we gotten “in the way” of God’s work? How many times have our ideas and preferences gotten “in the way” of His thoughts and Divine Will? How many times has our lack of courage or faith gotten “in the way” of allowing God to provide the strength equal to the task at hand?
Remember Jesus’ words. . .
“(23) And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”” (Luke 9:23 ESV)
We must get self out of the way in order to properly follow and serve!
Note how Paul revealed what that meant in his life where he wrote. . .
“(20) I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 ESV)
Christ had become Paul’s life! And because Paul had self out of the way he could confidently proclaim. . .
“(13)I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 ESV)
Are we ready to say the words “I’m in the way” as a confession with a willingness to go the next step and ask God to help us allow Him to do His work in and through us? If so, we will. . .
“(10) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” (Ephesians 6:10 ESV)
Have a great day OUT OF THE WAY IN GOD’S WAY!
