When it comes to “image”, there are those who think “image” is everything and so are very select regarding the style of clothing they choose to wear. In considering the “image” being presented there is mindfulness of even the brand name of the clothing and shoes worn. Even hair styles, jewelry, body piercings, tattoos, walking style, and many other things can have something to do with the “image” one may try to portray. However, is the “image” presented actually true to the character or is it merely — like clothing — a put on?
When we consider the essence of our life, what are we focusing on? As Christians, we have put on Christ. (Galatians 3:27) As Christians we are to be mindful of the manner in which we walk. (Colossians 1:10) As Christians we are to be mindful of what is to be the true “image” of our life!
When we remember we were created in the “image” of God (Genesis 1:26-27), are we seeking to remain true to His holy essence? (i.e. 1 Peter 1:15-16) Though sin has marred that “image”, in Christ is found the means of the renewal we need. (i.e. 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:10) As we behold the glory of the Lord are we duly surrendering to the transformation into that “same image from one degree of glory to another”, or is our focus being veiled? (note 2 Corinthians 3:15-18) How are we focusing on our origin in relation to our style of living presently and what God ultimately has in mind for us?
In his first letter to the church at Corinth — while drawing a contrast between the fleshly likeness humanity shares with Adam and the spiritual likeness we are to share with Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:45-48) — Paul went on to state. . .
“(49) Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. ” (1 Corinthians 15:49 ESV)
This is what John also encouragingly stated in writing. . .
“(2) Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. (3) And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.” (1 John 3:2-3 ESV)
Considering both our origin and what we are destined for, may we continue surrendering to the transformation God is bringing to our life so that the presence of Jesus in us will become more and more evident to those around us!
Have a great day KNOWING THE TRUE IMAGE THAT IS EVERYTHING!
Carl
