There are times when we might hear things which end up going “in one ear and out the other”; ideas or notions we easily or quickly dismiss. This may occur when we’ve decided what was said was not worth considering. It can also happen due to only half listening. To hear with the ear without really hearing seems indicative of having not given a listening ear. However, when it comes to God’s Word are we continuing to be mindful of how it ought to retain our undivided attention and then move us forward into godly action?
To that end James urged. . .
“(22) But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (James 1:22 ESV)
God’s Word will not fulfill all for which He has sent it (note Isaiah 55:10-11) in our life if it stops at the ears. The sign of having truly heard is when what God has declared goes in the ear, enters the heart, and then works its way through our feet in going, hands in doing, and lips in speaking what is fitting for life’s varied occasions in accordance with His Will. His Word is to enter in to be implanted in us (James 1:21), begin its transformative work (i.e. Romans 12:2), and then transcend our life to touch the lives of those around us to the glory of God. Therefore, may we daily take in the Word and allow it to work out all of God’s intended purpose on our own behalf and the behalf of others we meet through the day-to-day encounters of life!
Have a great day TAKING IN THE WORD TO BE WORKED OUT THROUGH OUR LIFE!
Carl
