Running ahead is an encouraging picture when being in a race. However, when we consider relationship, then the picture is one of abiding together to walk and share together. Though there may be variation in the speed of steps at any given moment, in walking together there remains consideration of one another in the journey. This is no more significant than in consideration of our relationship with the Lord!
Having noted deceivers in the world, John exhorted. . .
โ(9) Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.โ (2 John 9 ESV)
Our walking with the Lord implies abiding in His Word; His teaching! To depart from the teaching of Christ is to run on without Him. Do we at times need to slow down and meditate more on His teaching to internalize its truths and thus deepen our faith and our resolve to abide with Him regardless of how we feel or what others might teach? Or do we need to pick up our step and study more and so not lag behind spiritually?
Though we ought to desire others to join with us on the journey, we must begin with remaining on the journey with Jesus. Then, like Paul, we can encourage others to โ (1) Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.โ (1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV) May our life remain in step with the Lord as He leads us toward our eternal home!
Have a great day WALKING IN THE WILL OF CHRIST!
