“Hey, you just stepped on my foot.” “Careful. You just about pinched my finger in that.” “That’s my leg, not the table leg you are kicking.”
We know when a part of our body is being negatively impacted. Therefore, we guard it and watch out for and even speak up for it when ill-treated. Amidst the diversity of functions, we hold a sense of appreciation for the usefulness of each. As we understand this so clearly as it relates to our personal body, we are also to share the same concern for the body (the church) of Christ. He, being the head (Colossians 1:18), it is personal to Him how the body functions together. Should it not then be personal to us as well?
In his letter to Christians at Rome, Paul reminded. . .
“(4) For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, (5) so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” (Romans 12:4-5 ESV)
Being connected to Christ we are also connected to one another and so in His body we have become “individually members one of another.” We belong to each other. Therefore, we ought to care about and share concern for one another. In our speaking up for one another, we lift each other up. This reveals we take personally what is going on in the life of each other. It also makes clear to others the genuineness of the relationships shared in the Lord’s Body. May we continue growing in valuing the relationships the Lord has brought us into!
Have a great day TAKING PERSONAL OUR ROLE IN THE BODY LIFE IN CHRIST!
