Many live their life on the basis that if the coast is clear, no one is looking, or no one will find out, they will go ahead and do what they know to not be right. Does this not say something about their true character regardless of what others might think? Are there times when we ourselves are glad others can’t read our mind or know the true motives behind some of our actions?
In the garden scene at the time of the coming of Jesus’ arrest, we read. . .
“(48) Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.” (49) And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him. (50) Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.”” (Matthew 26:48-50 ESV)
Under the guise of a friend’s kiss, Judas betrayed the Lord. Did he not know Jesus knew? Did Judas really think he was fooling anyone? He should have stayed closer longer. After Judas had left the upper room — as Jesus continued to encourage and prepare the other disciples for what was to come — they had acknowledged. . .
“(29) His disciples said, “Ah, now you are speaking plainly and not using figurative speech! (30) Now we know that you know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.”” (John 16:29-30 ESV)
This was a truth John even noted earlier in his Gospel account (John 2:24-25) and which was clearly revealed in the Lord’s interaction with others. (i.e. Matthew 9:4; 12:25) However, before we too quickly wonder at Judas, what about us? Are we living mindful that God knows what goes on in our mind. Are we living in a manner revealing we know He is aware of every action of our life? When we speak, do we do so acknowledging He is aware of every word which comes from our mouth? Nothing is hidden from His sight!
As the writer of Hebrews declared. . .
“(12) For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (13) And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” (Hebrews 4:12-13 ESV)
Do our life actions and choices reveal we know this? What others know or think about us is of little consequence compared to God knowing! However, as we consider the genuineness of an abiding relationship with Him, rather than living with a fearful expectation of judgment, may we find comfort knowing our whole life is lived under His caring and loving watchful eye. We can pour out our hearts to Him because He already knows anyway. We can look to Him for guidance because He knows where we are and how to get us to where He wants us. Therefore, knowing He knows, may we seek to live our daily life to glorify and please Him!
Have a great day KNOWING THE MATTER OF KNOWING THAT MATTERS!
