As we noted yesterday, we all make mistakes. However, when it comes to mistakes, the worst mistake might be the refusal to learn from them. To continue making the same mistakes again and again is not very smart. Perhaps we would agree it is rather stupid.
Solomon wisely noted. . .
“(12) Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.” (Proverbs 12:1 ESV)
When what we need is provided, to not accept it is not very smart. We might even say it is stupid. So, how open are we to the correction and redirection we sometimes need?
It has been said, “If you can’t be corrected without being offended you will never grow in life.” (original source unknown)
If we truly love growing, rather than being too easily offended, we will do well to remain open to guidance offered. Rather than being offended and then becoming defensive, let us consider what may need to be taken to heart to steer us in a better direction. To be accepting of needed reproof is proof we are not stupid.
Solomon also noted. . .
“(11) My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, (12) for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.” (Proverbs 3:11-12 ESV) [also noted in Hebrews 12:5-6]
As we acknowledge the Lord disciplines those He loves, may we learn to love the discipline the wisdom of His Word provides as we remain humbly and gratefully directed by it!
Have a great day LOVING THE GUIDANCE THAT GROWS US!
