While Moses was leading Israel through the wilderness, we read. . .
“(1) Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman. (2) And they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it. (3) Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth.” (Numbers 12:1-3 ESV)
What was going on here? What was up with Moses’ brother and sister? As we read on, we see that God called the three out and spoke of the special way in which He had spoken to His servant Moses. (vss.4-8) When the Lord departed and the cloud lifted from over the tent, Miriam was leprous, and they acknowledged their foolish action and sin. (vss.9-11) Moses then cried to the Lord to heal her. (vs.13)
Did Aaron and Miriam have their roles? Yes! Did they not have some significance? Yes! However, their ego appears have gotten in the way. That is what happens any time we are not content with the role God gives us, but instead covet the role of others or a role that is not ours to take.
The varying roles we have in the church (i.e. Romans 12:3-8) does not mean anyone is less significant. Within the church, regardless of background we are all noted as being one in Christ and heirs together of the promise to Abraham (Galatians 3:28-29), and even husbands and wives are to remember they are together heirs of God’s grace in Christ. (1 Peter 3:7) However, God — in accordance with His Divine wisdom — has revealed through His Word how various roles are to be considered both within the family (1 Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 5:23) and the church. (i.e. Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Timothy 2:12-15) Each role is important in its service being carried out. Each role has its glory to be acknowledged. That is to be understood as ego is kept out of the way.
Ego will always get us into trouble. May we instead find contentment in the roles as God has noted them and into which He has called us, as we glorify Him in serving the function He intended!
Have a great day EXPERIENCING GOD’S GLORY IN THE ROLE HE HAS GIVEN!
