Let Your Light Shine

November 28, 2011 by Dale Grissom

A commentary on Matthew 5:13-16

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted?  It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men” (v. 13).  As salt we are to have a preserving influence on others, not only in bringing them to Christ, but as a continuing influence in their lives.

“Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid” (v. 14).  We are to be the light that leads others to Christ, through His Gospel which is able to banish ignorance and the darkness of sin.  Not only must we enlighten the world through the Gospel of Christ, but our Christian lives must serve as a daily example to all.

“Neither do men light a candle and put in under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house” (v. 15).  Far too often we fail to let our lights shine.  Those who go to questionable places or engage in questionable activities may be trying to hide the fact that they are Christians.   But we must realize that, when we wear the name of Christian, our conduct is a reflection upon Christ’s church.  It is important that, in every aspect of our lives, others see Him living in us.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (v. 16).  The performance of “good works” is the duty of every Christian.  When we give aid and encouragement to our fellowman, we show our love for Christ and our dedication to serving Him.

May the joy of being a Christian be evident in our lives.

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
