Our hearts are touched by our interactions with others in varying ways. Because of the manner in which we are connected with others, the feelings we experience can swing from heavenly to hurting. To have a heart with the capacity to love deeply also opens us to the capacity to deeply grieve. As someone has said, “You can be hurt only if you care a lot.” [source: calendar quote]
In his letter to Christians at Rome, Paul urged. . .
“(15) Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15 ESV)
In our caring for others and the things going on in their life, are we experiencing the capacity for both the rejoicing and the weeping? If so, it means we are caring as we ought. There is no way around it because our hearts are wrapped around those relationships. Though we don’t like to hurt, when we do we can rejoice that we have developed such a genuine connection that we are duly touched by what is going on in other’s lives as we are also connected with others who are this way toward us. It is a sign we are not merely caught up in our own life interests but are developing relationships in the way God desires. (i.e. Philippians 2:4) As God cares (1 Peter 5:7) we also are to care. It is a part of our shared life experience. May it remain so with us!
Have a great day ACCEPTING OUR LOT TO CARE A LOT!
Carl
