As we have noted, the Christian walk is one characterized as a changed life and a life of service. Consider one more aspect noted by Paul in the passage we have been noting. We read. . .
“(9) For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, (10) and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 ESV)
Life in Christ is a life of anticipation. Though life holds many wonderful aspects to be experienced now, there is something even greater to which we can look forward. Jesus is coming again and will receive us to be with Him forever! (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) Not knowing when (Matthew 24:36) means we wait and live prepared. (Matthew 24:42) We are also to help others see their own need for preparing for whenever that time set by God (Acts 17:31) is brought to fulfillment. Of all the hopes we might await being brought to fruition, this is the most “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13) we have. That is why we are to live with our minds not set on earthly things, but rather set on things above. (Colossians 3:1-2) By so doing, we will properly live while in this earthly realm.
John encouraged. . .
“(2) Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” (1 John 3:2 ESV)
It is then that the transformation God has been doing in our life will finally be complete. Oh, what a blessed eternity God is drawing us toward. May the reality of that day give us encouragement and strength for living for His glory and praise today!
Have a great day LIVING WITH AN EXPECTANT MIND SET ON THINGS ABOVE!
