Life is like a taxi. Have you ever given that consideration? I don’t mean the idea of sitting back and allowing someone else to do the driving, though that may adequately describe the life of some. Life is like a taxi in the sense the meter ticks whether we’re going or standing still. Whether the taxi is transporting us somewhere or sitting waiting for us to finish business, the time ticks away and the charges continue to add up. It is all time for which we become responsible to pay.
It may be possible to stop a clock, but we cannot stop time. We may choose to sit idling, but time marches on. And we cannot recapture the time that has passed; it is gone forever!
Note Paul’s exhortation to Christians at Colossae and Ephesus:
“(5) Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.” (Colossians 4:5 ESV)
And. . .
“(15) Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, (16) making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV)
We are to remain mindful of the best use of the time we have been given. The meter is still running. We may find time idly wasted to be the costliest. We need to use the time God give us and do so wisely. How much mileage we get out of our time depends much on our own choices.
Time marches on! Let’s not sit as it passes by! May we accept it as it comes, making the most of it by using it in a God glorifying manner!
Have a great day ON THE METER!
