LIGHT OF UNDERSTANDING!

April 18, 2024 by Carl Hanson

Though the Lord’s disciples seemed to have been slow at times to comprehend fully what He was teaching them, it is wonderful to see the glimpses of when the light of understanding came on. On an occasion when He asked the disciples who people were saying the “Son of Man” was and they provided some of the responses (Matthew 16:13-14), Jesus brought the question home to themselves. (Matthew 16:15) At that point it was Peter who responded, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16 ESV) As the Lord acknowledged, Peter was right on the mark. (Matthew 16:17) He was getting it!

When Jesus was with His disciples the night of his arrest, remember Philip’s request where we read. . .

“(8) Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”” (John 14:8 ESV)

Jesus’ response was that in the time He had been in their presence, did they still not understand to see Him was to see the Father? (John 14:9) The unity of the Father and Son were to have been clearly evident in His words and works! (John 14:10-11)

Then, following the Lord’s resurrection, we know the struggle of Thomas to believe unless he saw for himself the nail pierced hands and side. But when the Lord did show Himself to Thomas, oh how quickly the light came on as we read. . .

“(28) Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”” (John 20:28 ESV)

Those words of Thomas clearly noted the Lord for Who He was and is; exactly how John introduced the Messiah in his Gospel. (John 1:1-2 & 14) At the sight of Jesus, Thomas lit up as he was enlightened to understand without a doubt the Lord had truly risen from the dead.

In the manner in which Jesus responded to Thomas, it is clear his words were not merely a statement of astonishment but were accepted as a clear confession of the truth! Jesus is both “kurios” and “theos”! Are we acknowledging the same? Is our life clearly declaring both the Lordship and Deity of Christ? May the light of the Son dawn brightly on us that our life will clearly reveal Jesus for Who He was, is, and ever will be!

Have a great day LIVING TO REVEAL THE LIGHT THAT LIGHTS THE WAY!

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
