LONGING!

May 16, 2025 by Carl Hanson Leave a Comment

A longing is a yearning desire. Such has drawing power and so what we long for needs to be duly considered because it could either draw us away from God or toward Him. God also has a longing, and this is for us to be appropriately drawn to Him. Therefore, He has revealed His Will and provided His commands for directing our life with an urging for us to remain in a proper relationship with Him.

During the days of the prophet Ezekiel, we see this longing where we read. . .

“(31) Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? (32) For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.” (Ezekiel 18:31-32 ESV)

Such a longing was also expressed by Jesus during His walk on earth where we read. . .

“(37) O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” (Matthew 23:37 ESV)

How it must have pained the Lord to have been rejected by those who should have eagerly accepted Him as they had been awaiting the coming of the Messiah. Longing to draw them in under His loving protection, He was met with refusal.

What is very striking about both these passages is the need for turning back to God was not with regard to the world in general, but about those who should have acknowledged their covenant relationship with God. However, the Divine longing is also for all as Peter noted. . .

“(9) The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 ESV)

Just as in the days of Ezekiel and as Peter noted, there remains the need of repentance and turning toward God; to turn and live! God’s longing is not to bring death, but to bring life! As we acknowledge Him as the Creator of life, may we continue turning to Him to live the life He desires that leads toward the eternal life to come!

Have a great day DULY DRAWN BY THE LONGING OF GOD!

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
