“Love it or leave it!” Sometimes that is expressed as a choice in some matters such as where one lives, the workplace they may be in, or even sadly a relationship. A reality is, those things which are not much loved do not seem to prompt a desire to stay even if that would be best. This is no more true than when it comes to the truth! How much do we truly love it? Or do we love ourselves and own desires more? If that is the case we need to recognize the desire needs to change because the truth remains the truth regardless of how we might feel.
In Psalm 119 we read. . .
“(104) Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.” (Psalm 119:104 ESV)
And. . .
“(127) Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold. (128) Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; I hate every false way.” (Psalm 119:127-128 ESV)
The psalmist loved God’s commands and cherished them even above fine gold because they — being right — provided needed understanding. However, he didn’t just love what was right, he hated what was false. It was firmly decided in the psalmist’s mind (and heart).
The reason for the none acceptance of God’s Word and Will, and for the departure of many from it, is that they have “refused to love the truth and so be saved.” (i.e. 2 Thessalonians 2:10 ESV) Understanding God’s commands are truly good for us, as God is love (1 John 4:8), let us acknowledge His love behind them. Even that which directs us away from sin is a sign of His love for us as His children. (Hebrews 12:6) May we truly love the truth, holding to it by walking in it (2 John 4), and remain mindful of speaking it in love (Ephesians 4:15) with the hope others will find the blessing in loving it too!
Have a great day LOVINGLY EMBRACING THE TRUTH!
Carl
