MENTAL MUSEUM (Part 1 of 3)

June 7, 2025 by Carl Hanson Leave a Comment

When touring a museum, we have the opportunity to see many old things. Each of the items displayed represents things of the past. Some of the stories or memories going along with these relics are good while others may not be. As we consider the various exhibits, we may prefer the displays which portray positive accomplishments in history. However, even some of the remembrances of bad events or times may need to be retained as reminders of the mistakes we dare not repeat.

We all have a mental museum! Old thoughts. Old memories. Some wonderful and others not so good. Some of them may be suitable for display. We retell these again and again with great fondness for the memories as well as appreciation for those willing to let us share. Other memories may need a little work before being brought out into the open; considering how best these can be explained and applied to life. Then, there are others which maybe should be taken out the museum’s back door and trashed. Still, for those “relics” retained in our mind — whether good or bad — there are lessons to be learned. The good ones should continue encouraging us while the bad ones can remain as teachers of the experiences we want to guard against repeating.

Consider the good memories to be cherished and shared.

            Paul stated. . .

“(6) But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us the good news of your faith and love and reported that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, as we long to see you — (7) for this reason, brothers, in all our distress and affliction we have been comforted about you through your faith.” (1 Thessalonians 3:6-7 ESV)

It is wonderful to be able to draw from the archives of our mind, memories of those we love and with whom we have shared together times of work and relaxation. It is also encouraging when we know we are remembered by others with the same kind of fondness.

The writer of Hebrews encouraged. . .

“(32) But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, (33) sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated.” (Hebrews 10:32-33 ESV)

We can draw strength from the memory of times when we stood firm and were able to make it through difficult times. This encourages us to keep on keeping on when such times are being faced again. Because we know God has helped us before, we trust Him all the more to aid us again. May the good memories continue to strengthen and encourage us to keep pressing on!

Have a great day MINDING THE MUSEUM!

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
