The question was asked, “Do you wake up grumpy in the morning?” The response: “No, I let him sleep.”
How often has the manner in which our day began set the tone for how we dealt with the rest of it; the grump of the morning grumped through the day? Even with a day marked by a rough start, we can still choose to change our attitude as we go through it. However, remaining mindful of where our day’s focus begins can aid from start to finish. This is why I like to make my Bible reading a first part of my day as I am constantly reminded of the Sovereign power and wisdom of God and His ever mindfulness of my life.
In one of David’s psalms, we read. . .
“(7) Answer me quickly, O Lord! My spirit fails! Hide not your face from me, lest I be like those who go down to the pit. (8) Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” (Psalm 143:7-8 ESV)
Despite a pressing issue or struggle on his mind, David looked to the reminder of what was good in connection with his relationship with God; His steadfast love and trustworthiness. Consider the impact in our own life when we remember each morning the steadfast love God has for us! Would it make us less anxious? Would it remind us of where our trust ought to continue resting? Would it then add a smile to our face, inject joyfulness to the tone of our speech, and contribute courageous readiness to our step as we move on through the day we have been given? May we remember God’s steadfast love in the morning, allow its reality to carry us through the varying activities and encounters of the day, and then bring our head to the pillow for peaceful rest at night!
Have a great day WAKING TO GOD’S ABIDING LOVE!
