How do we rise in the morning? Do we first check the weather to consider how our day will be? Is all it takes is hearing morning rains to dampen our spirit for moving on into the day? Do we allow a sense of gloom to overshadow the blessing of a new day to be alive? Or do we still rise with a song in our heart regardless of what the weather might be?
Recently as I woke in the morning, I knew it was raining hard by the sound of water rushing through the downspout by the corner of our bedroom. However, that was not the only sound I heard. My attention was also caught by the singing of birds. Despite the morning weather, they had not lost the song God had given them to sing. It was a joyful sound and a wonderful reminder of how to begin each day regardless of the weather.
Even as David’s life was threatened by Saul, he would still write. . .
“(16) But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. (17) O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.” (Psalm 59:16-17 ESV)
Not a song of mourning, but a song of praise to God in the morning. David focused on that which kept the song welling up from within him. May we do the same as we praise God for each new day He provides, with a resolve to glorify Him in how we use it.
Have a great day KEEPING AWAKE THE SONG OF PRAISE!
