Again, how we view our body will determine how we will live. We have noted how as “jars of clay” our body can still be put to honorable and righteous use, and that though it is suitable for the temporariness of life in this realm, there is something more glorious yet to come. We are to presently live with a sense of belonging that transcends this realm into the eternal we have been promised in Christ. Today, let us consider a third way in which we are to view our body.
It has been said, “My body deserves respect.” Though this may have been stated in relation to being mindful of healthy self-talk regarding physical self-image, can we understand the deeper significance in a spiritual sense? Our body is to be respectfully used in reverence to God Who created it, redeemed it, and has made it holy in Christ!
Writing to Christians at Corinth, Paul exhorted. . .
“(18) Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. (19) Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, (20) for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 ESV)
Are we living in a manner reflecting we belong to God? Are we mindful of living through each day reflecting a holiness of our body wherein dwells God’s Spirit?
In his second letter to Timothy, Paul noted. . .
“(20) Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. (21) Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.” (2 Timothy 2:20-21 ESV)
The body God gave us deserves respect. That respect begins by our respectful use of it; a vessel for honorable use because we have been set apart in Christ as holy. In that holiness we are made useful to God Who is to be the rightful Master over our life! May it remain so with us to His glory and praise!
Have a great day LIVING MINDFUL THAT OUR BODY REALLY BELONGS TO HIM!
