Contributors in life! That’s what we should desire to be. What are we offering? What is it we are providing for those among whom we find ourselves?
There are great contributions we can make on behalf of others. Those contributions can impact in powerful ways. However, we must consider what kind of contributions we are making. Do our actions say to those around us any of the following? “I am among you as one who gripes.” “I am among you as one who discourages.” “I am among you as one who criticizes.” “I am among you as one who thinks you are entitled to my opinion.” “I am among you as one who . . . .” (Fill in that last one with anything else that comes to mind and the list goes on and on.) I’m sure we run into some of those contributors just about every day. However, what contribution do those we are among really need?
Consider what Jesus stated in the wake of the disciples’ discussion regarding who was greatest among them. We read. . .
“ (25) And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. (26) But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. (27) For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves.” (Luke 22:25-27 ESV)
What is needed is what Jesus, Himself, demonstrated through His ministry on earth. The greatest Being to ever walk the face of this earth went about serving and doing good. (Acts 10:38) Following in our Lord’s steps we are to live with a servant heart as we seek to touch the lives of those around us in ways that will hopefully direct their focus toward God. Such is the life that rules! May it be so with us!
Have a great day IN SERVICE TO GOD’S GLORY!
