In the Song of Solomon — written as a portrayal of drawing together into an intimate marital relationship — over and over again we find the phrase “my love” as a reference to the beloved. (i.e. Song of Solomon 1:9, 15, etc.) It reflects the sentiment shared by a husband and wife who would note each other as “the love of their life”. That designation implies a focus toward another who one could not imagine their life being without. It is a view toward the one drawn to as their soul mate and with whom they are passionate about living the days of their life. Such a focus carries with it a deep trust and an abiding faithfulness to the relationship. It lends toward the focus of even expressing, “You’re the only one for me.” And I believe that is the inseparable relationship (i.e. Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5-6) God had in mind for marriage. It is a relationship to be honored. (i.e. Hebrews 13:4) However, there is another relationship which ought to be considered in the sense “the love of our life” which — when properly embraced — aids in bringing all other relationships into proper perspective.
When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus reminded of the foundational love of our life in stating. . .
“(29) Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. (30) And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (31) The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”” (Mark 12:29-31 ESV)
It is with our whole being we are to love the Lord our God; heart, soul, mind, and strength! He is to be truly acknowledged as the One for us! He who created us and made us a living soul is to be the One loved first and foremost. Why would we not love He Who first loved us? (1 John 4:19) In beginning with a deep trust and abiding sense of faithfulness to God and His Will, we will then be aided in developing the spiritual health necessary for enhancing our other relationships in God glorifying ways! May He Who gave us life, and also promises it eternally, truly remain “the love of our life”!
Have a great day ACKNOWLEDGING GOD AS THE ONE WE COULD NEVER LIVE WITHOUT!
