Some people live in denial of or try to cover up what needs to be acknowledged and so hinder needed redirection in their life. Despite the initial pain of the reveal, the blessing in seeing what is not right is the acceptance of opportunity for needed change. As someone has said, “If you are warned you have a problem, admit that it exists, then set out to fix it without delay!” (original source unknown)
In a psalm of David we read. . .
“(1) Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. (2) Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. (3) For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. (4) For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. [Selah] (5) I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. [Selah]” (Psalm 32:1-5 ESV)
David did not find relief until he was willing to acknowledge his sin. This moved him into the forgiveness God was (and is) willing to provide. That is the blessed direction godly grief moved toward; leading to salvation and away from regret. (2 Corinthians 7:10) The consequence of self’s coverup is remaining with the guilt, but the outcome of confession is sin being covered by God; adequately dealt with as the life turns in walking His direction.
John encouraged. . .
“(9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:9-10 ESV)
Again, no denial but rather acknowledgment followed by the blessing of the forgiveness and cleansing God is willing to provide. Therefore, as we acknowledge sin for what it is, let us not delay in turning from it and back toward Him. As someone recently posted, “Dear God, fix me when I’m the problem and protect me when I am not.” May we remain open to the fixes from God we need!
Have a great day TURNING FROM SIN TO THE FAITHFUL FORGIVER!
