The idiom “get down to brass tacks” is an Americanism from the nineteenth century meaning to get down to the most important, the fundamental, the basics, immediate facts, or priorities. It is also expressed in the idea of “getting down to the nitty-gritty” which is noted as referencing the most important aspects or practical details of a subject or situation. When we consider that which relates to the essence of our life, when we talk about “grit” it is generally the idea of courage and resolve or strength of character. Therefore, in getting down to the nitty-gritty of life, what marks our grit of character? Do we duly acknowledge the integral aspect of integrity?
Solomon stated. . .
“(9) Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” (Proverbs 10:9 ESV)
Yes, that which is thought to have been well hidden usually is eventually found out. Though I do not like the idea of too much governmental oversight, I don’t worry too much because I know I don’t have anything to hide. However, I must always remember that even that which might be hidden from others remains in full view of God and will ultimately be disclosed. (i.e. 1 Corinthians 4:5) As Solomon noted, there is security in integrity! Therefore, while seeking the commendation from God (1 Corinthians 4:5), may integrity remain an integral part of our true character!
Have a great day WITH INTEGRITY AS OUR TRUE GRIT OF LIFE!
