NOT BACK BUT FORWARD!

May 10, 2023 by Carl Hanson

[05/10/2023 “teEn-MAIL”]

When we engage in aiding or inviting, is it about a reciprocal reward or truly about being a charitable servant of Christ? Though the world in general tends to reach out with the expectation of getting something in return at some point, Jesus emphasized the idea of loving, doing good, and lending without such an expectation, knowing there will be Heavenly acknowledgment. (Luke 6:32-35) The spirit of Christian service begins with a view toward God’s gracious provision and continues with a focus of trusting faith in His continuing blessing. (i.e. 2 Corinthians 9:6-11) Therefore, as someone has said, “Do a favor and don’t ask for, or expect, one in return.” (original source unknown)

On an occasion when Jesus was invited to dine in the home of a ruler of the Pharisees (Luke 14:1), it provided the opportunity for several lessons. The first two appear to have been directed at the guests in general. (Luke 14:2-6 and 7-11) However, the third was clearly directed toward His host where we read. . .

“(12) He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. (13) But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, (14) and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”” (Luke 14:12-14 ESV)

The attitude of service is not to be about payback, but paying it forward as we have been so abundantly blessed by God. It is then offered with a forward view toward the eternal blessings He has promised to provide. What we do does not go without His notice. (i.e. Matthew 6:4) Neither does our motive behind it as God knows our heart. Therefore, whatever we do in word or deed, may it all be done in the name of the Lord with thankfulness to God (Colossians 3:17) as we live as benevolently toward others as God has been toward us!

Have a great day WILLINGLY SERVING TO THE GLORY OF GOD!

                        Carl

Our Mission

Truth For Teens was originally a publication with a circulation of over 500 to youth throughout the United States.  This was possible because a group of men and women felt a need to provide healthy, helpful information to our youth as they deal with daily situations.

That need has not changed. The Central church of Christ at Pflugerville, Texas has decided to oversee this continuing, important ministry with this website and publication of a regular newsletter available to all teens around the world. We want the truth of God to be available as the “truth for teens” as well!
