Part of the message in the handwriting on the wall to King Belshazzar was that he had been weighed in the balance and been found wanting. (Daniel 5:27) Though his father, Nebuchadnezzar, had humbled himself (Daniel 5:18-21), Belshazzar did not (Daniel 5:22) and it brought his end. (Daniel 5:30) Nebuchadnezzar had duly acknowledged the truth of God in stating. . .
“(37) Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” (Daniel 4:37 ESV)
Too often humanity looks at God’s ways as being unjust or not right according to human thinking when it is humanity’s ways that are not just and right. (i.e. Ezekiel 18:25-29) What marks our focus?
It has been said, “The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and untried.” (G. K. Chesterton)
Though it may not always seem so to our finite mind, the Will of God is always right. The pathway of God is not the easiest path, but the right one. (Matthew 7:13-14) However, many do not want to even consider His ways as they choose to live life according to their own desires. In the wanting what humanity wants, all the conflict and unrest in this world reveals how wanting one is when relying on their own wisdom. To accept what God has declared brings us to the blessings He wants to provide which enhance life now and lead to eternal life to come.
Peter encouraged his readers in stating. . .
“(3) His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, (4) by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” (2 Peter 1:3-4 ESV)
Following our own desires, when weighed in the balance, we will be found wanting; lacking in what is needed. Wanting God’s Way rather than our way will not leave us wanting! May we humbly accept the Divine direction (Jeremiah 10:23) we need!
Have a great day HUMBLY ACCEPTING THE WISDOM OF GOD’S WAY!
