As a part of God’s creation we came from dust and to dust we will return. (Genesis 3:19; Ecclesiastes 3:20) However, what marks our manner of living in this realm between those two points?
When we hear the expression, “Eat my dust”, what does that imply? Is it not saying, “I’m racing on ahead. Keep up if you can.”? Is it not about leaving others behind? That might be fine in an actual race where only one becomes the designated winner of the competition. However, it is not the manner in which we ought to go about life. But how many times is the focus so much on self the need for encouraging along and supporting others is forgotten?
Understanding the reality that we all have a spirit that is not left in the dust (Ecclesiastes 12:7), we are to live mindful of the eternal destiny of others. Someone has said, “If you see someone falling behind, walk beside them.” Are we mindful of this as we continue on life’s journey?
Jesus exhorted His disciples. . .
“(12) This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12 ESV)
And Paul noted a sense of that one anotherness where we read,
“(14) And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV)
As we love as the Lord loved (and loves) us, we will be drawn to come alongside one another as together we walk toward the eternity He went to prepare for us. As this also reflects a sharing in the desire of God (2 Peter 3:9), may it continue to mark our manner of living!
Have a great day ENCOURAGING OTHERS ALONG LIFE’S WAY!
