THE “STAND UP”
The “stand up” in life may be expressed this way: “Lord, give me strength to remain firm and faithful. Help me to get up and give me the strength to stand for that which is right.”
The “stand up” is crucial. Time in prayer is of utmost importance. However, we are not to spend all our life down on our knees. The time comes for us to move from prayer to action. The time comes for us to stand for, and upon, God’s principles. In our prayers we may find ourselves wrestling as we acknowledge the lack of strength and courage to boldly stand up for that which is right. But let us pray. Let us pray in faith. And then let us stand knowing we are not standing alone.
We need to trust in God’s provision to help us stand. Note the equipping of God Paul noted in his letter to Christians at Ephesus where we read. . .
“(10) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. (11) Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. (12) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (13) Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (14) Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, (15) and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. (16) In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; (17) and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, (18) praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” (Ephesians 6:10-18 ESV)
So what shall we do? In view of the eternal hope that is ours through Christ, Paul urged. . .
“(58) Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (I Corinthians 15:58 ESV)
Remember the passage which kicked off this series referred to Epaphras struggling or wrestling in prayer for those at Colosse, that they would “. . . stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.” (Colossians 4:12 ESV) May we continue praying to that end and be prepared to stand strong!
Have a great day STANDING ON AND FOR THE WILL OF GOD!
