When it comes to sight, some have the visual acuity of 20/20 vision while others struggle with degrees of nearsightedness, farsightedness, blurred vision, cross eyedness, lazy eye, colorblindness, or even complete blindness, etc. Some of these can be corrected by prescription lenses or surgery. However, when it comes to spiritual vision, we need to sincerely pray regarding our optic openness.
In psalm 119 we read. . .
“(18) Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” (Psalm 119:18 ESV)
and. . .
“(27) Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works.” (Psalm 119:27 ESV)
Some are not open and find themselves left nearsighted and blind to the work of God even in their own life. (i.e. 2 Peter 1:9) There are also those who remain self-blinded in their refusal to be open to what God has clearly revealed. (i.e. John 9:39-41) Many who continued asking Jesus for a sign seemed to refuse to accept any of His works which truly testified as to who He was and is. (note John 5:36; 10:25 & 38) Truly there is none so blind as they who will not see! For these, it was the lens of their heart in need of changing or perhaps even radical heart surgery that was necessary for seeing as they ought. How open are we?
Every time we open God’s Word to study and read, it would be good to begin with an honest assessment of our openness to God’s Sovereign direction and then a sincere prayer for Him to open our eyes to see and understand what needs to be taken to heart and put into practice in our daily life. May the eyes of our heart be enlightened (Ephesians 1:18) to see, understand, and then live as we ought!
Have a great day WITH THE EYES OF OUR HEART OPEN WIDE TO GOD’S WILL!
Carl
