Sometimes prayer has seemed to be utilized by some as a last resort when all human effort has failed or a panic button when things have gotten out of control. However, prayer is to be an ongoing part of our life. (i.e. 1 Thessalonians 5:17) Is it remaining so with us? Someone has even said, “Prayer isn’t a back-up plan! Prayer is a battle plan!” (original source unknown)
As we strive to live a life pleasing to God, due to the ungodly nature of the world around us, we understand there is a spiritual battle in which we are engaging. Being of a spiritual nature (Ephesians 6:11-12), there is spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:13-17) God has provided for this spiritual warfare so that we can stand strong in the strength of His might. (Ephesians 6:10). However, having listed the elements of the spiritual armor to be put on, Paul went on to state. . .
“(18) praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, (19) and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, (20) for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” (Ephesians 6:18-20 ESV)
Obviously, prayer is a significant part of the plan! It is to be engaged in “at all times” and “for all the saints” (as well as others, 1 Timothy 2:1-2). Paul also urged it to be done on his own behalf as he continued sharing the truth of Jesus even as a prisoner in Rome. Therefore, let us plan to pray. Let us plan to pray often. May the spirit of prayer abide with us as we are encouraged that God — having put prayer in the plan — continues to provide His listening ear as we press on in this life!
Have a great day PRESSING ON WITH PRAYER!
