Sometimes a commercial’s appeal is related in terms such as “Picture yourself in this car.”, “Picture yourself living here.”, or “Picture your body looking like this.” The idea is that if one is moved to picture themselves in such a way, they will be drawn to make it happen. That is why so much money is invested in such advertising.
Where people end up often generally begins with a picturing in the mind to then lead on toward whatever it is. This ought to cause us to give due consideration to that on which our mind most rests. Someone has said, “Your life will always move in the direction of the dominant picture you have in your mind.” (Randy Harris)
What is the dominant picture in our mind? What is it we are most focused on? Whatever that picture is will ultimately relate to what develops in our life. Where our focus is most fixed will be the direction we will be most drawn!
Paul urged those at Colossae. . .
“(1) If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (2) Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (3) For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (4) When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1-4 ESV)
So, Picture this! Let us picture our life living prepared in ever eager anticipation of our Lord’s return of which no one knows the day nor hour! (Matthew 24:36) Let us picture our life ultimately eternally with Him! (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17) Let us picture our life sharing with Him in the glory of Heaven! (1 Peter 1:4) Picturing life in this way will lift our focus above the enticement of the things of the world which perish with using, as we embrace the incomparable value of all that will last eternally. (Matthew 6:19-21) Maintaining a mind set in such a manner will continue moving us toward the eternity our Lord went to prepare for us! May that mindset remain ours!
Have a great day KEEPING THE HEAVENLY PICTURE IN VIEW!
