Another rule some live by has been called the “Silver Rule”. This is the rule that has been described as a spirit of treating others the way they treat you. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. You be nice to me and I’ll be nice to you. You share with me and I will share with you. But be unkind to me and I will be unkind to you. It is action which is always contingent on the actions of others. Is this the rule by which we live?
Jesus taught…
“(46) For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? (47) And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?” (Matthew 5:46-47 ESV)
Jesus clearly indicated that more should be expected of us than what we see of the world’s actions. When we live by the “Silver Rule” we are no better than those in the world. May we connect with others in accordance with what they need. This is the very example we get in viewing the walk of Jesus on earth. May we remain mindful of following in His steps!
Have a great day DOING MORE THAN OTHERS!
