A third rule some live by has been referred to as the “Rule of Gold”. This is where either the one who has the gold makes the rules or whatever will get the gold is the thing done. In this case money (worldly wealth) has become the master over the life. It is covetousness or greed that rules.
Paul placed greed in the category of “idolatry” (Colossians 3:5) because that is the case as wealth becomes the god that controls the decisions and actions of the one under its power.
Jesus warned. . .
“(24) No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Matthew 6:24 ESV)
He also asserted. . .
“(15) And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”” (Luke 12:15 ESV)
There may be only a one letter difference between “God” and “gold”, but there is a world of difference for this life and all eternity between which is our Master! The right rule is connected to the right Ruler.
Have a great day RULED BY GOD!
