The fourth rule is one Jesus taught and which we have come to refer to as the “Golden Rule”. Jesus put it in these words:
“(12) So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12 ESV)
This is the rule for life that prompts activity which is not contingent on the actions of others, but rather on their need and a focus on the way we ourselves would like to be treated. This rule — rather than embracing a list of negatives like the others we’ve noted — calls us toward taking positive action in dealing with others. And there is real power in living according to this rule. In treating others kindly, even when they have not deserved it, may be the very thing that finally wins them over and transforms them from enemy to friend. This is why this rule is so golden. Since we know how we want to be treated, may that focus prompt us in all our actions toward and interactions with others!
Have a great day ACCEPTING GOLDEN OPPORTUNITIES TO PRACTICE THIS RULE!
