To pray with a resolve to press on is good. However, to pray and rush on may not be. Though we can pray and be encouraged the “prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16 ESV) and pressing on can reveal our faith in the workings of God, are we taking time to listen? Someone has noted, “Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God.” [source: calendar quote]
In the psalms we read. . .
“(97) Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. (98) Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. (99) I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. (100) I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts. (101) I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. (102) I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me. (103) How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (104) Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.” (Psalm 119:97-104 ESV)
Therein is reflected a desire to know and be led by the Will of God. Not just praying and launching out into life, but praying and listening; seeking the Divine guidance God provides. As noted, it is in such openness wisdom, understanding, and movement on the right pathway of life can be found.
As Jesus’ teaching as recorded in Matthew chapters five through seven was drawing to a close, He noted the wise listener in stating. . .
“(24) Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (25) And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25 ESV)
May our prayerful lips and listening ears work together to increase our faith and our resolve to press on daily in accordance with God’s Will!
Have a great day MEDITATING AND MOVING AS GOD DIRECTS!
