Sometimes I see posts from people calling on all their “prayer warriors”, followed by a specific prayer request. Those requests are generally about medical appointments or issues, family situations, work challenges, and other such things. However, there are also times the requests are made with no details due to how personal the situation might be. Still, prayers can and should be offered since we are always praying to the One Who is fully aware of the need and situation.
So, what is a “warrior”? According to Merriam Webster’s Dictionary it is “a person engaged or experienced in warfare” and broadly defined as “a person engaged in some struggle or conflict”. A “warrior” is one who heroically hangs in there and fights on; does not give up!
Associated with our prayers can be either a personal struggle or a struggle on behalf of others. To be a “prayer warrior” would be to be earnest and steadfast in the prayer. Today, let us consider that spirit of prayer; the persistence and steadfastness.
When Jesus told one of His parables relating to prayer, Luke’s account prefaced it with. . .
“(18) And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.” (Luke 18:1 ESV)
Jesus went on to tell the parable of the persistent widow and her ongoing appeal. However, the great encouragement of Jesus was that our Heavenly Father does not give in because we would wear Him down by our continual coming, but because of genuine love and mindfulness of us. Such prayer is to be exercised with trusting faith in Him (note Luke 18:8) as we accept His Will (i.e. 1 John 5:14) to prevail on our behalf.
Writing to Christians at Colossae, Paul urged. . .
“(2) Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 4:2 ESV)
And to Christians at Thessalonica, Paul exhorted. . .
“ (17) pray without ceasing,” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV)
As a “prayer warrior”, may we continue in prayer and never give up!
Have a great day STEADFAST IN PRAYER!
