In the house of the wicked there may be drinking and laughing and celebration. In the house of the wicked there may be feasting and luxurious living. In the house of the wicked there may be joy in doing all the heart desires. However, is that the place to be? Is that the place preferred? Or are we finding the better place and blessing?
Though we might consider above all the rest of Israel in Egypt Moses had it made, it is not where he stayed! As the writer of Hebrews stated. . .
“(24) By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, (25) choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. (26) He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.” (Hebrews 11:24-26)
Moses could have stayed in the cozy, but he chose a place with God and the people of God. The writer of Hebrews also noted Moses’ faithfulness “in all God’s house.” (Hebrews 3:2 & 5) In humility he fulfilled the role God brought him into and remained faithful despite the recurring complaining and stubbornness of the nation. Being noted as being more meek than all the people of the earth (Numbers 12:3), Moses accepted his place to serve in God’s plan.
In one of the psalms of the sons of Korah we read. . .
“(10) For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. (11) For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. (12) O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!” (Psalm 84:10-12 ESV)
Satisfaction in even merely being a doorkeeper. Whatever the connection there remained to the house of God this could be seen as a place to be and honor would be found in serving even that role.
Regardless of the variation in roles we might fulfill, what is the place we have chosen? Is remaining with the household of God our preferred place to humbly serve whatever purpose God may desire to work through us? I think being at the door welcoming others into the kingdom of Heaven is a very honorable place to be. Rather than being drawn into the frivolous, may our life be marked by the faithfulness of abiding with God and serving others to His glory and praise!
Have a great day BLESSED IN GOD’S HOUSE!
