When we consider all the things we might have to do in a day, we may feel the need to begin listing and prioritizing them. Last Monday began in such a way as I felt a bit overwhelmed in what I needed to get started for the week’s activities ahead. I began with a consideration of the things which were most significant for that day and accepted what might have to be left for the next. But where I began was how I always do; my morning Scripture readings in both the Old and New Testaments and prayer for the focus on what needed doing. What was the result? More came together than I anticipated, which is often the case when I have put the proper first things first.
Someone has said, “Isn’t it interesting, you always have time to do the things that you consider most important.” (original source unknown)
For all of us there are only so many hours in a day, but we each choose where we begin according to what is most important to us; what we consider to be the priorities. At times for me that requires early mornings. Quite often my wife will ask, “Are you going to make it?” However, she has learned to anticipate my response of “I always do.” Somehow, someway, even when I feel a lot is on my plate, God seems to bring it all together as I pray for His help in doing so. But regardless of all else on the “to do” list, it always begins with a focus on God and His Word.
The significance of this was also exemplified by our Lord where we read. . .
“(35) And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” (Mark 1:35 ESV)
People were seeking Jesus and He had further work to accomplish (Mark 1:36-39), but this was how He began. I have found His practice to be my blessing. A good reminder there is always blessing in following in His steps.
Consider your days and how you begin them. There are sure to be times when not all on our list may be accomplished that particular day, but the right start will aid as a powerful jumpstart into it. May we give due consideration each day to the use of the time God has given us!
Have a great day SEEKING GOD’S DIRECTION AS THE FIRST PRIORITY!
Carl
