Besides the privilege of prayer and opportunities to be a sharer of the best and most needed news of salvation in Jesus, there is also the privilege we have of providing support in our relationships with one another. As noted in the words of the hymn “Down in the Valley” (words by Mary Barrett, 1922), though each verse notes things going well in one’s own life, each one ends urging the mindfulness of, “Don’t forget that in the valley There is someone needing you.”
In his letter to the church at Galatia, Paul urged. . .
“(2) Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2 ESV)
The word translated “bear” is the same word used in reference to Paul carrying the name of the Lord (Acts 9:15) as noted in yesterday’s focus. It is a word used for taking up, bearing up, or carrying. What Paul stated regarding the bearing or carrying of one another’s burdens is that by doing so we are engaged in the privilege of fulfilling the law of Christ! This is what the Lord would have us do.
Bearing or carrying one another’s burdens fulfills the moral law of Christ as we join in walking in the steps of the Lord Himself. As He willingly carried His cross (John 19:17) — with some assistance along the way (Luke 23:26) — on which He bore our sins (1 Peter 2:24), we are to aid others in the overload they might be bearing. Having been privileged to receive the blessing, we have been given the mutual privilege of extending it. We have the privilege of being needed in assisting in a way that aids others in moving forward rather than falling under their load. In acknowledging the privilege that is ours of a blessed supporting relationship with the Lord, may we duly acknowledge the blessed supporting relationship that has brought us into with one another!
Have a great day EXPERIENCING THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING NEEDED!
