There are a lot of promises made today by people who have neither the power nor the intent to deliver. Often this is an accusation against politicians who promise the moon to get elected, but once in office fail to keep those campaign promises. Offers are also made for products with promises which don’t always pan out the way they at first sounded. Sometimes promises are made with the full intention of bringing them about, but something unexpected occurs (to no fault of the promiser) and the promiser is unable to deliver. All this may cause us to be leery of those who make promises and may also cause us to be very careful in making them ourselves. We should take promise-making seriously. But our God is One who can be depended upon to be able and faithful in delivering what He promises.
Referring back to God’s promise of a son to Abraham, Paul drew attention to Abraham’s faith in spite of how old he was. We read. . .
“(20) No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, (21) fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.” (Romans 4:20-21 ESV)
It did not matter how old Abraham and Sarah were. It did not matter how many years had gone by. It did not matter how others viewed the situation. God had promised and Abraham looked to God to deliver! It did not matter whether the body of Abraham or Sarah had the power to deliver, because God had that power! And the delivery took place.
Time and again throughout the Scriptures we read God’s promises and see how He delivered again and again. Why should we doubt any of His promises for the future? He has the power to do what He has promised! Let us believe!
Have a great day BOLSTERED IN FAITH BY GOD’S PROMISE POWER!
