You have probably heard of the issue about pronouns lately. Whether a male should be called he or him, or if he prefers to identify as female, she or her. A female might prefer he or him over she or her. Or the person, whether male or female at birth, might prefer the pronoun, they or them.
Semantics, right? Why should we care about what a person wants to be called? Let us see what God’s special revelation to us, the bible, says…
An example of pronoun usage can be found in Exodus 3 when God sent Moses to Pharoah. Moses asked “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?”. God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM, has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.” God chooses to be known as the Great “I AM” forever. He is, was, and always will be. The usage shows His lasting power and authority.
With that power and authority in mind, know that God also said through His prophet Moses in Genesis 1, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” God made man in HIS IMAGE and created them to be male and female. There is no confusion here. There are only two genders. As He is described in 1 Corinthians, “God is not a God of confusion but of peace.”
If you are confused by the recent pronoun changes, we ask you to consider Genesis 1 that God created every one of us in HIS IMAGE and with a specific gender. We ask that you share this message with others, always in love for their sakes. For as David said in Psalm 139, “I praise you [God], for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” You are all made in God’s image with an identity from birth, special and precious! The great “I Am” says so!
