Sometimes the Scriptures are turned to and searched through not necessarily to learn something, but to find support for what is already being thought. Do we read to merely prove we are right, or are we like the Bereans who searched the Scriptures daily to make sure they were accepting what was right in accordance with what had been written? (Acts 17:11) It has been noted, “There are two things God left out of the Bible; mine and your opinions.” (original source unknown)
In a proverb of Agur we read. . .
“(5) Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. (6) Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.” (Proverbs 30:5-6 ESV)
In other words, God’s Word is reliable and is to be accepted as it is! It stands on its own. Therefore, we can find comfort in resting our life on it and allowing it to direct our steps.
As Paul stated in his letter to Christians at Rome. . .
“(4) For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” (Romans 15:4 ESV)
What has been written and preserved in the pages of the Scriptures will prove to be the best source from which to receive the teaching, reproof, correction, and righteous training we need to mature us in the faith and equip us for living the life of service to the glory of God to which we have been called. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Rather than spending our time limping between opinions (i.e. 1 Kings 18:21) — yours or mine or of anyone else — let us plant our feet and walk in what God has provided for sustaining us and bringing us toward the eternal hope He has provided through Christ! The more we learn to trust and more fully surrender to His Word, the more we will continue to see how His Way is truly the perfect manner in which to live! May we experience the ongoing blessings of confidence, comfort, peace, and wisdom in walking in the Will of God!
Have a great day SEEKING TO LIVE TRUE TO GOD’S WAY!
