What is the real purpose behind how we live and what we do? What attitude or focus most compels our actions and responses in our interactions with others? What above all are we seeking?
Jesus noted on more than one occasion those who sought the glory or praise of their peers more than that of God. (i.e. John 5:44; 12:43) This kept them from accepting Jesus for Who He was and is! In being unopen to the purpose of the Lord’s coming and the preparatory work of John the baptizer, they were rejecting God’s purpose for themselves. (Luke 7:30) If we seek the approval of others over the approval of God, we too will be missing out on the Divine purpose for our life.
As Paul noted in his first letter to the church at Thessalonica. . .
“(1) For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain. (2) But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict. (3) For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, (4) but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.” (1 Thessalonians 2:1-4 ESV)
Paul stayed true to the message as he sought to please God of Whom he was a messenger of the Gospel of Jesus. In his letter to the church at Galatia he even noted that if he were trying to please man he would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10) Being Christ’s servant, Paul continually sought God’s approval in how he lived and carried out his ministry.
As we make it our purpose to always seek to do what is pleasing to the Father, we will be walking in the steps of the Son. (John 8:29) Knowing God’s desire to work in and through us, let it be so for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13) In so doing, we will be accepting the purpose of God for our life! May we therefore remain pleased to please Him!
Have a great day KEEPING OUR LIFE PURPOSE THAT OF PLEASING GOD!
